Magic timing for Kooringal broodmare

It pays to be in the right place at the right time.
For Kooringal Stud’s Angus Lamont, the timing was perfect when the proven broodmare Aquada was offered in the Inglis Digital sale in late January 2021.
At that stage Aquada had produced the smart Spirit Of Aquada (three wins and $335,000 in prizemoney) and Turn The Tide (four wins and $283,000), as well as the promising four-year-old The Astrologist (stakesplaced with four wins and $406,000).
Aquada was also in foal to the Group 2-winning freshman sire Cliff’s Edge.
Plenty has happened in the two years since Kooringal submitted the winning bid of $30,000 for Aquada.
Aquada foaled a bay colt in the spring of 2021 and was then covered by Kooringal’s exciting young sire Sandbar, producing another bay son this year.

And The Astrologist has gone on to match the best sprinters in Australia and build the impressive record of eight wins – three at stakes level – and $2,136,890 in prizemoney.
The Astrologist put the icing on the cake when he claimed the $1.5 million Gold Rush (1400m) at Ascot on December 10.
Timing was again a key factor with the Group 3 victory coming a little more than a month before The Astrologist’s little brother was scheduled to go through the sales ring.
The Cliff’s Edge colt is included in Kooringal’s impressive draft of four youngsters heading for the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale on January 10 to 16.
“With what The Astrologist has done it’s made Aquada look a nice purchase,” Angus reflected.
“She was an older mare (12 years) but that wasn’t a big deal as she had shown she could get winners by different sires.
“It was a progressive family which kept producing winners … there was a fair bit going on.”
Kooringal also bought Moonrush and Yankee Eyes online – both on Bloodstockauction – and they will be represented by yearlings in the upcoming draft.
Moonrush’s bay colt by Kooringal’s dual Group 1 winner Prized Icon is a half-brother to the six-time Perth winner Panzdown.
Yankee Eye’s black or brown colt by Prized Icon is the first foal of the $180,000 earner.
Another astute Kooringal buy Chorus Of Angels has a brown Prized Icon filly on offer at the Gold Coast.
Kooringal outlaid $25,000 for Chorus Of Angels in foal to So You Think at the Inglis Broodmare Sale in Sydney in 2018.

Chorus Of Angel’s subsequent foal was knocked down for $130,000 at the 2020 Classic Yearling Sales.
The colt was named Anythink Goes and is now a four-year-old with three wins from 12 starts and almost $90,000 in stakes for Warwick Farm trainer Matthew Smith.
“Chorus Of Angels is an example of a good buy … we took a risk on So You Think proving himself and it paid off,” Angus said.
“Anythink Goes is showing promise while another son Eaton is now 10 years old and is still winning races.”
Eaton notched his ninth win in a staying event at Moonee Valley on December 16.
