‘Dry’ run ends for Gentleman Max

It took 63 attempts but grand old campaigner Gentleman Max has finally broken his dry track “duck”.

Gentleman Max powered to victory for Canberra trainer Keith Dryden and top jockey Blaike McDougall on a Good 3 surface in the Cootamundra Cup (1600m) on Sunday (October 4).

The eight-year-old is a son of Zariz, who stood at Kooringal Stud and was a noted sire of wet track performers.

Gentleman Max (pictured at Wagga) had registered 16 previous wins on rain-affected tracks ranging from a Soft 5 to a Heavy 10.

The bay had started 62 times on Good 3 surfaces for 17 placings before Sunday’s breakthrough.
