In order to give your maiden and dry mares the best chance of conceiving an early foal in the 2015 breeding season, mares should be given the opportunity to be included in an ‘Under Lights’ program from the second week in July until early September to ensure the desired result from this highly successful procedure. Scientific studies show that dry and maiden mares that are put under lights in the crucial weeks leading up to the breeding season fully justify the associated costs.
The equine breeding season is dependent upon an increase in the number of daylight hours, so placing your empty and maiden mares under lights in the lead up to Spring triggers physiological transitions enabling her to be reproductively cycling by September, and therefore much more likely to conceive from an early September mating than a mare in natural conditions. There is no debating early foals and their dams have many distinct advantages by foaling early in the breeding season.
Our lights program will commence in approximately four weeks’ time. If you would like us to include your mare in our program, or if you would like to further discuss mares under lights, please give us a call.
