Prolific winner-getter Zariz created a slice of feature race history in a memorable Queanbeyan Cup.
Zariz not only sired the winner of the 2000-metre event but achieved the remarkable feat of providing the trifecta in late November.
His son Zakeriz (pictured) built on his impressive record with an on-pace win for Wagga trainer Chris Hardy.
Zariz geldings Upper House and Nieces And Nephews chased home Zakeriz into the placings.
Zakeriz took his tally to five wins from only 15 appearances for Hardy and Richard Thackeray, who bred the handsome brown from their tough Perugino mare Keys To Thekingdom.
Two starts earlier Zakeriz had claimed the Cootamundra Cup (1600m) – a race in which Keys To Thekingdom was beaten a nose in 2008.
Zakeriz, Upper House and Nieces And Nephews are all consistent performers who are typical of Zariz’s progeny.
Between them they have registered 20 wins and 25 placings from 98 starts, amassing more than $500,000 in prizemoney.
Zariz stood his latter years at Kooringal Stud before he was lost in 2018.
The dual Group 2-winning speedster sired 354 individual winners – including four at stakes level – from 541 runners.
Zariz’s top performer Lazer Sharp won the Group 1 South Australian Derby over 2500 metres whereas his other stakeswinners Riziz, Shiraz and Zaratone were predominantly sprinters.
Queanbeyan Cup Day kicked off with a well-deserved win for Sifu.
Sifu, a five-year-old by Kooringal stallion The Brothers War, broke through at her 14th appearance for the Cheshire family.
