Special start to the breeding season

A beautiful bay filly entered the world in the early hours of a frosty morning to herald the arrival of a new breeding season at Kooringal Stud.

Rebel Raider mare Let’s Rebelle became a mum for the first time in late July as a result of an early September cover by Kooringal’s dual Group 1 winner Prized Icon.

The Kooringal team is delighted with the way foaling has kicked off in 2022.

“She is a nice correct filly … beautifully balanced and well muscled,” Angus Lamont said.

“Very typical of the Prized Icon progeny.”

Let’s Rebelle (pictured with her foal) is from the family of Australian Horse of the Year Let’s Elope, whose 11 wins included the Melbourne-Caulfield Cup double as well as the Australian Cup and another Group 1 in the Mackinnon Stakes.

No slouch on the track herself, Let’s Rebelle registered five wins up to 1500 metres and exceeded $100,000 in prizemoney.

Celebrating a special Horses’ Birthday on Monday (August 1) was the Street Cry mare Persia after foaling a Prized Icon filly on the iconic date.

The youngster hails from a successful family with 20 individual winners featuring in her first four dams.

Bookings continue to roll in for the $2.1 million earner Prized Icon, standing his fourth season at stud as his first crop prepares to hit the racetrack.

Prized Icon’s just-turned two-year-olds are in the stables of Australia’s top trainers, including Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, Gary Portelli, Annabel Neasham, Matthew Smith and John Thompson.

The son of champion sire More Than Ready will stand at a fee of $11,000 alongside the exciting stallion prospects Sandbar ($8800), Last Kingdom ($6600) and the highly consistent sire The Brothers War (fee on application).
