Kooringal yearling draft delivers quality

When Kooringal Stud’s Angus Lamont looks at Silver Flash’s yearling, he sees quality.

The colt by the consistent winner-getter The Brothers War is among the highlights of Kooringal’s extensive draft at the HTBA Yearling Sale in Sydney on April 23.

Angus describes the youngster (pictured) as an outstanding type who is certain to attract the attention of buyers.

“He’s just a lovely colt … neat joints, good size and beautifully balanced,” Angus said.

The bay or brown is from a well-related Canford Cliffs mare, whose only foal to race is the four-time winner Iris West.

Silver Flash is a half-sister to the stakes-winning two-year-old Direct Charge and from the family of topline performers Burrito, Posadas and Collate.

Lot 167 is a rare commodity being the only representative of The Brothers War at the sale.

Dual Listed winner Ancestry has headlined The Brothers War’s progeny while he has also been a constant course of smart gallopers in each of his crops.

The metropolitan-performed Jalmari (stakesplaced), Bandi’s Boy, Trooper Knuckle, All In War and Bluff ‘N’ Bluster are included The Brothers War’s 37 individual winners.

And Telecom Fighters continues to fly the flag for The Brothers War in Hong Kong, amassing $8.6 million in prizemoney.

The latest promising type was unearthed at the Albury Gold Cup Carnival when Miller Time led throughout on debut over 1000 metres.

“The Brothers War is doing a great job with limited opportunity,” Angus said.

“His biggest book are three-year-olds and already we’re starting to see a number of them show up.”

Kooringal has entered nine yearlings for the HTBA sale at William Inglis and Sons’ Riverside complex.

There are four by Kooringal’s $2.1 million earner Prized Icon and others by prominent stallions Smart Missile, Better Than Ready, Hallowed Crown and Sebring Sun.

Prized Icon’s first cop are two-year-olds and are impressing astute judges at this early stage.

The son of outstanding sire More Than Ready has three colts and a filly in the catalogue.

Lot 83 is a Smart Missile filly hailing from one of the best families in the stud book.

The bay’s third dam is 1991-92 Australian Horse of the Year Let’s Elope, who claimed the Caulfield-Melbourne Cup double as well as the Australian Cup and Mackinnon Stakes in a stellar race career.

Let’s Elope went on to produce the stakes winners Ustinov and Outback Joe, while her Danehill daughter Let’s Get Famous is the dam of Group 3 victor Let’s Make Adeal.

Kooringal’s filly is from Let’s Set Sail – a half-sister to Let’s Make A Deal.

“There’s some lovely horses in the draft by a good range of sires that are sure to attract some interest,” Angus said.
